Hi, In Issue 35 there was a great article on making a Lester spear. Well, having some time off, I thought I would try my hand at it.
I have to admit though that the pitch isn't made from resin I collected, as where I live there are very few pine trees. Also, I strayed slightly from the instructions as I had a bit of spare Buckskin from a course I had done with Wilderness Survival Skills earlier

Based on Jason Ingamells' article `How to make a Leather Tankard', here is my completed tankard design. This is my
first leatherwork project so it took me ages to get this result. The next step will be the hotwaxing, which will harden the mug and prevent any leakage. I am keeping my fingers crossed! Thank you Jason and Bushcraft & Survival Skills Magazine. Cheers!

This Japanese Waterstone is a combination stone, which consists of two grits; one on each side.
You can get them in different combinations but this is the most useful at 1000 and 6000 grit.
The combination of the medium and fine grits gives a fantastic polished edge that is razor sharp with very little burr to be removed with stropping.

http://www.axminster.co.uk £36.35
This is a Waterstone again but the noticeable difference that it is a single grit stone. The slightly coarser 700 grit makes the stone slightly better for initial sharpening, allowing faster removal of nicks or damage to the blade.
The great thing about this stone is that it is wider than the King stone so more blade is in contact with the stone at one time.<br
